 Preview Aston Villa vs Man City

Manchester City

When Manchester City visits fellow high-flyers Aston Villa on Wednesday evening, they'll be seeking to stop the three-match streak of score draws in the Premier League. As a result of dropping six points in their last three top flight games, the are now the third in the table.

Pep Guardiola's team played Tottenham Hotspur in an exciting 3-3 draw on Sunday afternoon, but they were involved in a contentious officiating incident when referee Simon Hooper called a late foul on Erling Haaland even though Jack Grealish had just scored with the game well into stoppage time.

On Sunday, Ollie Watkins gave Aston Villa the equalizer in the ninetieth minute, and Unai Emery's team overcame two deficits to earn a point at Bournemouth in the Premier League . For the Villans, it would have felt like a wasted chance given their opponents' weak standing, especially because a three-point haul would have put them above their rivals, Manchester City.

They'll be looking to end a 13-match losing streak in the Premier League head-to-head (D2, L11) when they play Pep Guardiola's treble-winning team at Villa Park this midweek in order to catch up to City. When the dates were announced back in June, Villa supporters could not have imagined that this would be the case. However, the hosts appear well-positioned to achieve just that, having won an incredible 13 straight Premier League home games and scoring two goals or more in 11 of those wins.

Players to watch:

Douglas Luiz, a midfielder for Villa currently playing for Manchester City, has scored six goals this season, five of which have come at home in the Premier League

Phil Foden of City scored against Spurs on the weekend to extend his season total to seven goals;
